Coaching the Van Driver

Reminder: Individuals who have not completed one of the Van Defensive Driving Course provided by the State Risk Management and Tort Defense Division will not be authorized to rent or drive a 15 passenger vans for The University of Montana.

The U of M Vehicle and Van use Policy requires that all individuals who will be driving 15 passenger Transportation Services' vans or other rental vans must complete the Van Defensive Driving Course or hold a current CDL with a passenger endorsement. This assists the University of Montana in mitigating the risks involved in handling a large passenger van.

Once you have completed the Van Defensive Driving Course you will be issued a completion certificate. You should provide your department with a photocopy of your certificate to keep on file to document that you have taken the course. This certification is good for three years at which time you will need to be recertified.

Please also note that the new rental policy requires the names and license numbers of all possible drivers to be listed on the vehicle rental request form.

Registration is accomplished by visiting the Training page of the Risk Management and Tort Defense division website at http://www.discoveringmontana.com/doa/rmtd and submitting the on-line registration.

Risk Management and Tort Defense will assess a $10.00 cancellation fee for any person who cancels their registration less than 48-hours prior to the scheduled course time.
